In 2014/15 the LGO registered 20,286 new complaints and enquiries. 11,094 complaints and enquiries required further consideration and were referred to its assessment team. Of those, 6,314 people were helped by explaining why the issue was not in the LGO's jurisdiction or why a detailed investigation could not be pursued. 4,780 complaints were investigated in detail.

Proof if ever needed that the LGO is a toothless watchdog and fails to alter attitudes and conduct in those they oversee especially when you still get cases like this. Attitudes, practices and conduct within our LAs are long overdue for change - there is no shame either, or any sense of humanity or responsibility. Let alone common sense and decency. No fear of losing jobs and pensions etc. Or any financial punishment of some kind to anyone responsible in matters.

I have no idea as to costs for Wales and Scotland but there is a lot of money involved, millions of pounds every year. Yet all we, the long suffering public, get collectively from our LGOs is the same old. Something needs to change that is for sure. People are suffering and all the comfort they get is a slap on the wrist given to the Council, nobody brought to account and a pocket money pittance for endless hardship and suffering. Or worst still a fob off job to genuine complaints. Is it just me that wonders what is the point in it all?

Handling complaints 49.

In this chapter we examine the criticisms that have been made about the handling of complaints by the Local Government Ombudsman (LGO). It is important, however, to acknowledge the volume and nature of the work that the LGO carries out. As we have noted, the LGO dealt with 21,840 complaints and enquiries and its investigative teams pursued 11,249 complaints in 2010-11.[78] On the nature of challenge facing Commission staff we found the assessment of Gary Powell, formerly from LGO Watch and a critic of the LGO, useful
