The National Assembly is being searched for hidden bugs after an AM taped standards chief's private conversations

Quote:
Mr McEvoy, who is currently sitting as an Independent AM after being expelled by Plaid Cymru, has released details of the conversations to the media.

Mr McEvoy said he recorded his own interviews with standards chief and left the device recording when he left the room.

The Assembly's Presiding Officer, Elin Jones, said that the police are now investigating and a search for recording devices is underway.

Meeting rooms and communal areas are being searched, she confirmed.

Welsh assembly standards chief accused of sexism by Neil McEvoy

Quote:
The Welsh assembly has asked the police to investigate the secret recording and presiding officer Elin Jones said the covert recording of private conversations on the assembly estate was a "serious breach of trust".

She said she understood they included confidential evidence by a witness during a formal investigation into Mr McEvoy's conduct.

"It is particularly egregious that the covert recording was done by the assembly member under investigation," she added.

Mr McEvoy called her reaction "ridiculous".

Quote:
Sir Roderick, a former high court judge and pro-chancellor of Swansea University, previously said Mr McEvoy's conduct was "wholly unacceptable" and "undermines the integrity of the complaints procedure".
